Root Canal Treatment
Endodontic Retreatment
Apicoectomy and Retro Fill
A root canal is a procedure to treat infection or inflammation inside the tooth. It involves removing the infected or damaged pulp (the tooth’s soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels), cleaning and disinfecting the root canals, and sealing them with a biocompatible material. This helps save the tooth and prevent further infection. Occasionally, a root canal is needed in order to place a post to allow for better retention of a crown on the tooth after significant loss of crown height.
Endodontic retreatment is performed when a previously treated root canal has failed or complications have developed, such as persistent infection or incomplete healing. The procedure involves reopening the tooth, removing the old filling material, cleaning and disinfecting the canals, and refilling the canals to resolve the issue.
An apicoectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the tip (apex) of a tooth’s root to treat persistent infection that has spread beyond the root canal. After removing the infected tissue and root tip, a retrofilling (placing a small filling at the root’s end) is done to seal the canal and prevent future infections. This procedure is typically used when root canal treatment or retreatment cannot resolve the infection.
